Purpose of the Trauma Exposed Professionals Program
Because of our great respect those who serve our country and our communities, Pacific Grove Hospital offers a Trauma Exposed Professionals Program through an evidenced-based, best practice approach that helps military, police officers, firemen, first responders, healthcare workers, and other community providers become empowered, strong and able to successfully deal with life’s challenges.
The Trauma Exposed Professionals Program provides treatment for individuals who may be experiencing some of the following symptoms:
- Sleep Disruptions
- Combat Related Trauma
- Post-traumatic Stress
- Sexual Trauma
- Suicidal Ideation
- Substance Use
- Mental Health Disorders
Upon admission, individuals are assessed by licensed clinicians to determine the appropriate treatment program based on presenting symptoms and diagnosis. On-going assessment and outcome measures are conducted at mid-point and discharge to determine additional problem areas and progress made in each area. At any point during treatment, additional symptoms that present themselves are assessed and incorporated into each patient’s treatment plan.
The overall focus is to empower individuals to take charge of their trauma-related issues and to master the skills needed for recovery. The Trauma Exposed Professionals Program combines the best of currently respected therapeutic interventions, including the following:
- Trauma Symptom Assessment
- Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

Cognitive Processing Therapy
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is one of the core treatment components of the Trauma Exposed Professionals Program. CPT incorporates trauma-specific cognitive techniques to help individuals with trauma-related disorders more accurately appraise “stuck points” and progress toward recovery. During the course of CPT, the primary focus is to help patients gain an understanding of, and modify the meaning attributed to, their traumatic event. The skills learned through CPT are helpful to empower patients to “become their own therapist” and to learn how to engage in adaptive coping skills post-treatment.
